Oral Exam
January 20, 2008
The oral exam consists of three parts: A) poetry recital, B) communicative activity and C) interview with the instructor.
A) Poetry recital: Memorize three poems selected from Lesson 11 to Lesson 15; state the titles of the three poems to let the instructor choose one for you to present. You will be evaluated on how well you enunciate the words and how prepared and knowledgeable you are with the poem through your presentation.
B) Communicative activity: You and your partner are to communicate with each other in Chinese in response to instructor’s directions on the spot. You need to review the vocabulary words, sentence structures and language expressions from Lesson 11 to Lesson 15 as your performance will depend on how fluent you are with them.
C) Interview with the instructor: Be prepared to answer questions addressing the following four categories:
a) Lesson-unit topics;
b) Grammar both semantic and syntactic;
c) Vocabulary;
d) Cultural literacy
Each pair of students will have 10-12 minutes to complete the oral exam. Please check to see your time of the oral exam, as you and your speaking partner will need to arrive ten minutes before your scheduled time and wait to be ushered into the classroom.

1) Do Character Writing worksheets for Lesson 15 from your workbook.
2) Start to study provincial places along the two rivers – 黃河,长/長江。
November 18, 2007
Study all poems and “Fun with Chinese” idioms from Lesson 11 to Lesson 14 for the test on December 2nd, 2007.
November 11, 2007
1) Finish up all worksheets for Lesson 14 from workbook.
2) Study language and grammar notes and supplementary text for Quiz on Lesson 14.
4) Memorize all poems, tongues twisters and FUN WITH CHINESE idioms.

1) Notify parents of the Information Meeting on summer 2008 China Trip on Sunday,
November 4 beginning at 12:30 in Hyman Hall Room 208.
2) Finish up all worksheets of Lesson 13.
3) Study Supplementary Text, Language Notes, Grammar Notes and Culture Link Section for Quiz on Lesson 13.
October 21m 2007
1) Do the group project: Identify the Odd Word. Turn in a typed list of ten to twelve groups of Chinese
words including the odd word with your rationale on the odd word.
2) Dish Project due on October 28, 2007.
3) Do worksheets for Lesson 13 from your workbook.

1) Finish all the worksheets for Lesson 12 from your workbook.
2) Study the quiz on Lesson 12.
3) Recite poems form Lesson 11 & 12.
